Blood Debt - The Legend of the Nguyen Thai Binh neighbourhood of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

The Bureau Podcast

After Vietnam was finally reunified in 1975 after centuries of fighting for its independence, the victors renamed every street and neighbourhood in the former South after national heroes and significant others who helped create and defend the nation. One neighbourhood in HCMC was named after Nguyen Thai Binh, an anti-war student from the South who stood for peace at a time when it was deadly to do so. Stripped of his US scholarship, he was sent back to Vietnam, but he didn't make it back alive.
